Here is a link
to a recent New Yorker essay by Adam Gopnik reviewing the rise of the new
geopolitics. Though the essay does not
deal with materials we use in this course, it deals with many of the themes
that we have dealt with – explanations of broad geopolitical trends and rise and
fall of great powers. Gopnik writes
beautifully – another reason I like reading him, though my own perspective on
many issues are very different. He
concludes with plea for humility in grand narratives, something I hope I have
stressed sufficiently.
